Harwich is a historic port town, the home of Samuel Pepys and the Mayflower.  There are several museums, lighthouses and a large concentration of Georgian buildings in Old Harwich.  At nearby Dovercourt, there is a blue flag beach.  The Ha’penny Pier Visitor Centre has a small exhibition of local history and a free Information service for visitors.
